Adenike 1st December 2019

My dear mother what can I say. Where do I start. At the beginning you were mum at the end you were Grandma but before all that you were Baby D. Mum I really don't know what to say you were always there for us. Looking after us and reminding us of important birthdays. You made sure that you gave me a birthday book with everyone's birthday in it. You encouraged us all to be independent giving me the keys to the flat at Ogunlana Drive when I went to University. I could come home at any time if the day or nite and sometimes did. I remember your old car I think it was a Datsun that I took to youth Corp and brought it back. As we all grew up you encouraged us to spread our wings and sent Bola and then Fola back to England to go to school. I was your financial assistant in those days always going to Union Bank at Sabo looking for foreign exchange to pay school fees. One by one we all started having children . You brought up Temitayo for me from birth and it was a real tug of war to get her back from you. You actually broke down and started crying the time I came to take her finally at the age of 2. All the grandchildren benefitted from your generosity both financially and morally. I always tell people that my son Folahan would not be where he is today without the help you gave me. When Oluwole went to Bowen University he preferred spending his vacations in ibadan with you and the girls. Due to the fact that he was the only man in the house he enjoyed being Mr Big. His cooking skills greatly improved. When he and Christina graduated on the same day you ensured that it was marked in Bodija. Remember when we both became unregistered stock brokers we both read the stock page in the newspapers and would advice each other on whether to buy or sell. Mum you lived well and when Grandpa came into your life he really looked after you. You were both travelling here and there. America today and England tomorrow. I used to envy you but when you came back your suitcase always had at least one item for everyone. Christmas this year won't be the same. No Christmas pudding and all the works. The girls will really miss that. You were Grandma to all their friends some who automatically came to spend their holidays in Bodija whether the girls were there or not. Mum you lived well and died with dignity. I have to stop here. You are now pain free and are resting in the Lord. Adieu my darling mother Grandma Phyllis.
